At 3M, equity involves acknowledging the historical context of people with differing identities, removing barriers to success and creating fair access to opportunities for everyone to thrive.
3M, with the dedication and involvement of our employees, aims to advance equity in STEM and skilled trades across the globe.
To do so, we invest in organizations and programs that improve academic outcomes and provide transformational opportunities for the next generation of scientists and engineers. We’ve also set an education-focused goal to create and support five million unique STEM and skilled trades learning experiences for underrepresented individuals (as defined by the National Science Foundation) by the end of 2025.
As this fast-growing field is also high paying, these jobs can help underrepresented individuals build sustainable economic wealth.
3M aims to reflect the diversity of our customers, suppliers and community partners. We're committed to advancing our diversity goals:
Since 2020, 3M has progressed and evolved our social justice work with a goal to sustain our efforts by embedding it into the core of our operations. This is manifested in how we drive equity for our people, communities and business.
One way we’re bringing social justice directly into our business practices is within our commitment to supplier diversity. We aim to double our spend with diverse suppliers in the U.S. by 2030.
Through philanthropy and cash and product donations, we aim to advance equitable outcomes in 3M communities across the globe. Most notably, in 2020, we announced our plan to invest an incremental $50 million to address racial opportunity gaps in workforce opportunities. This is in addition to the annual investments we already make in our communities.

As a science company, 3M relies on data to inform our priorities. Our team has rooted our work in the proven research that equity is a superior growth model for our company and our communities. These are the commitments we focus on to promote that growth.
Awards worth celebrating.
At 3M, we are dedicated to leveraging our resources and capabilities to drive greater equity in our communities, workplaces and in our business practices. I have the privilege to lead a team that was formed to drive our efforts in diversity & inclusion, social justice, philanthropy and volunteerism. To drive sustainable impact, we will need to innovate boldly, listen to and engage with our community partners and lead with courage and empathy to deliver on our Equity and Community commitments.
